Sharing lessons learned at 7ASM

Recently the newest member of the Natural Decisions team, Michelle Dickson attended the 7th Australian Stream Management conference in sunny Townsville. Michelle presented a paper, on behalf of both Natural Decisions and the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, on the lessons learned when trying to balance productive catchments and protection of important environmental assets.

Michelle shared insights from the Corner Inlet WQIP process including the approach to setting water quality targets, the lessons learned from bioeconomic modelling and dealing with challenging results.

The Corner Inlet WQIP was one of the first projects Natural Decisions was involved with late last year,  when the WGCMA engaged Geoff Park and Anna Roberts to help finalise plan. Anna and Geoff had previously lead bioeconomic modelling and an INFFER assessment that was completed to inform the development of SMART targets and the implementation plan for the WQIP.

All the papers from the conference can be found on the River Basin Management Society website http://rbms.com.au/event/asm/7asm/
